Sheepskin is quite amazing. These single layered sheepskin Ugg boots, where the leather skin is on the outside, have captivating properties. The wool fleece can be worn without socks whereas synthetic fur will make your feet perspire heavily and make your feet ice-cold in winter. Worse yet, synthetics develop an odor quickly.

Uggs au natural are not like that; it takes a much longer time for odor to build and for some reason, it is not pungent. With genuine sheepskin your feet do not perspire much, stay warm in winter, air-conditioned in summer.

Using water resistance and repellent cleaners are pretty standard. Make sure the surface is clean and dry and spray the area thoroughly and evenly with a back and forth motion and making sure you spray the seams. Do not saturate. For best results, let boots dry 24 hours. During rainy weather apply stain and water repellent more frequently.

When you use a repellent, spray down-wind and keep the spray from a flame. It’s not a good idea to breathe in the fumes or to expose the product to a flame.

Once in a while you have to wash you Uggs and if you don’t mind a little fading, use a washing machine. Very cold water helps reduce fading. Use Woolite, not soap. Throw in some tea shirts as scrubbers and to keep them from knocking around. Use the light-duty cycle for 10 or 15 minutes.

Pull out the boots at the end of the cycle and if needed, do a soft hand scrub with a little more Woolite with an old toothbrush or nail brush on the surface of the sheepskin suede where there may be some stains or dirt encrusted. Place back in the wash machine and rinse and spin-dry.

When it’s time to pull out your Ugg boots, put soda bottles into the shaft. It keeps them upright and straight. Put them in a warm place and check from time to time. Keep an eye out for sheepskin puckering. If that happens, just push and tug the sheepskin to keep the look intact.

By making sure the drying is equal in order to prevent water lines. When the suede is dry you can touch up with a soft brush to get the pile softened up. Don’t forget to re-apply the water repellent.

Woolite and cold water will keep your boots clean and minimize fading. Wearing prolonged use will stretch sheepskin. When you get a new pair you want them to fit snug and not too tight.

To deodorize the boot, use equal amounts of baking soda and corn flour and sprinkle them inside the boot. Shake the dust around especially around the bottom. Let this concoction stay overnight and shake out the excess the next morning and you’re good to go.
