Animosity and aggression was at times created between the Egyptians and their neighbouring countries because of gold mining. The lower rung of the Egyptian society and the convicts, who were watched like a hawk by the military personnel, carried out the process of mining. In the initial years, it was the area of eastern desert and Nubia, where much of the mining took place.
