Rolex and Recession: Now that Times Are Hard, Should You Invest in a Rolex?

Monday, 8. February 2010

A Reuters story that appeared late last year said that Singaporeans are now trading their Rolex watches, including the popular Datejust watches, and are now settling for less pricey brands. This is because recession has hit the Asian city-state quite badly and people are trying to cash in on the value of their Rolex watches.

People from all over the world are relying on their Rolex Oyster Perpetual and Datejust to save them. Jewelers are claiming that there is rise of people from around the world who are collecting new and pre-owned watches Rolex watches even with the unemployment rate at an all time high. Not only are people still collecting them but the prices of watches are going up. Collectors are starting to understand that gold and silver are worth more than paper.

If your fortunate enough to have money to invest, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust would be a great starting point. Gold is at an all time high and with cash4gold watches are coming a commodity. The Rolex has craftsmanship that cannot be duplicated and if you decide to sell your watch down the line, give it a good buff and you could make a good return.

Rolex Watch Buying Guide – 5 Telltale Signs Of A Fake Rolex

Saturday, 12. December 2009

The most obvious counterfeits can be identified within seconds of contact. While many of these tips will not apply to watches that are bought online, knowing the basics of counterfeit identification is a great first step.

1. Second Hand Movement – Save for a short time where Rolex made Quartz powered watches (OysterQuartz) all Rolex movements are mechanical. This means that they have a smooth sweeping motion when the second hand moves around the dial – “ticking” about 5-8 times per second.

High-end replicas can also try and duplicate this smooth sweeping motion but don’t be fooled. They’ll typically use a fake Chinese or Swiss movement that is mechanical (not Quartz battery powered) that is not as smooth. It will tick about three to four times per second.

2. Clear Case Back – Another giveaway for a replica Rolex is the clear case back. This is a transparent window on the back of the watch case that shows the movement inside. Despite many fake Rolex watches using quartz movements, there are some “higher-end” models that use a mechanical movement.

Rolex Explorer II A Fine Watch

Friday, 3. July 2009

I bought a Rolex Explorer 2 while I was visiting Switzerland a few years back for vacation. The watch cost about $2000, which is a bit expensive but I was also thinking about reselling it here in the states.

The watch made from solid stainless steel and is resistant to water up to 100 meters. I do a lot of diving under water, and the depth is never greater than 100 meters so this watch is great for me. I tested it underwater

The watch is a bit heavy because it weighs about 8 ounces though I can deal with it. This might be a problem to people who are arthritic though. The watch has a second hand, a minute, hour and second time zone hand as well as a date.

There is a bubble right on top of the date which serves as magnifying glass. The hands on the watch ticks quite smoothly and sounds great. I prefer the layout of this watch over the rolex submariner that one of my friend ownes.

Rolex Explorer II Review

Monday, 29. June 2009

I visited Switzerland a few year back. While I was there I ended up buying a Rolex Explorer II watch. The watch cost about $2000 which is pretty expensive in my books. The reason why I bought the watch was to sell it when I returned home and make a bit of money off of it.

In the end, I kept the watch for one reason or another. I personally love diving, so having a watch that is resitant to water up to 100 meters is great. I don’t dive that deep so this watch was just perfect. I have kept this watch while diving a few times and it works just as normal underwater.

The watch is a bit heavy because it weighs about 8 ounces though I can deal with it. This might be a problem to people who are arthritic though. The watch has a second hand, a minute, hour and second time zone hand as well as a date.

The date is in magnified by a bubble and the way the second hand ticks is very smooth. In addition there is a red hand that is set to your home time zone which is on the front of the watch. It is also very easy for you to adjust the black hand.

My Watch A Rolex Explorer

I bought a Rolex Explorer 2 while I was visiting Switzerland a few years back for vacation. The watch cost about $2000, which is a bit expensive but I was also thinking about reselling it here in the states.

In the end, I kept the watch for one reason or another. I personally love diving, so having a watch that is resitant to water up to 100 meters is great. I don’t dive that deep so this watch was just perfect. I have kept this watch while diving a few times and it works just as normal underwater.

The Rolex Explorer watch weighs 8 ounces. I am not arthritic so I can deal with the weight, though if you do suffer joint pain you might want to go for a lighter watch. The watch has an hour, minute, time zone, second hand and a date much like the original explorer.

The date is made larger with a bubble that serves as a magnifying glass also the way the hands ticks are very smooth. It is really nice listening to the watch, also I find the design to be a lot better than rolex submariner.
