The pearl as a fashion symbol in jewelry has had a very long lasting impact. The oldest pearls were found with mummies. Nobility fought with the lower classes over who should were pearls. Famous paintings centre around pearl necklaces, earrings and the beauties that wore them.
The pearl has been used in fashion for at least three thousand years. A three strand pearl necklace was found in the bronze sarcophagus of a mummy, and contained two hundred and sixteen perfectly conserved pearls. It is now on display in museums in Europe.
A famous pearl named La Peregrina was the queen of all pearl necklaces in its day. It had the largest pearl of those times and was part of the crown jewels of Spain in the early 1500s. The admiration of beautiful pearls has been passed down through the generations. Grown in the soft tissue of mollusks, also called oysters, the pearls are kept safe by the shell as they grow and mature. Perfect smoothness and roundness will determine the quality in pearls, but shapes will vary. Some of the largest pearls fond in the world are South Sea pearls.
South Sea Pearls are created within the Pinctada maxima mollusk. Although most are grown in Australia, they can also be found in Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines. Pearls can sometimes be found in the wild, but most pearls today are cultivated on a type of underwater farm. The same is true with South Sea pearls.
One of the main reasons South Sea pearls are larger than others is because of the amount of time they are grown. While many other pearls are harvested in 9 to 16 months, South Sea pearls are grown for 2 years or more. The waters in the South Sea are extremely clean, and that produces a variety of foods for creatures of the sea to thrive upon. A pearl is an exquisite stone of our great world that is quite popular and usually sported by the wealthy. Pearls, because of their origins, are precious and rare. The rarity of pearls is due to the fact they don’t appear in oysters regularly; it takes a lot of effort, patience, and manpower to produce enough pearls to cover a pearl necklace. Because of the rarity in discovery, pearls are quite pricey and not always available. Pearls are valuable in most cultures and seen as a symbol of the privileged.
Pearls are available in a slough of kinds, like: Freshwater Pearls, Seawater Pearls, Akoya Pearls, South Seawater Pearls, Tahitian Pearls, Black Pearls and Synthetic Pearls. The cost of pearls is dictated by quality, size, rarity and popularity. Whichever type, pearls are all quite delicate and must be cared for; any deficiencies can reduce the quality and destroy the gleam and glow of them. Before recent, these precious rocks were considered to be the gem enjoyed by wealthy people but in today’s times, manufacturer’s have made pearls affordable for almost all people. An Akoya pearl is considered as one of the most popular types of pearls of today which is basically grown and harvested through akoya oysters. Japan and China are so far the major and leading producers of Akoya pearls. Most of the time, an Akoya pearl has the highest level of luster making it as one of the most highly valued of all pearls.
But then, there are four other basic factors that also need to be considered in order to define the pearl’s quality. These certain qualities include color, size, surface, and shape of the pearl.
Cultured, as well as natural pearls appear in various colors like champagne, silver, cream, white, black, blue, green, gold, and a whole lot more. Wearing one of natures best offspring on a finger is a definite magnet for admiration. The pearl ring is an easily recognizable piece of jewelry that would create stares out of short glances. Of course, the magic is not in the metal ring whether it is high-grade gold or silver. This merely complements the main feature, the centerpiece of the ring, which is the pearl. Embed it anywhere; the pearls beauty will still stand out. However, implanting it in a fine ring and wearing it makes one exude the pearls exquisiteness as well.
Unlike other gems, pearls do not actually come from lifeless stones. These are natures living work of art, the amazing fruit of the romance between oysters and sand in the oceans bosom. Each genuine pearl is unique in every way. At a glance, they may look like they are the same but, in fact, they are not. Therefore, every pearl ring is also exclusive. Pearls would easily be anyone’s preference. Although they are not tagged as women’s best friend as diamonds are, they are these treasured beads, among other gemstones. One can easily spot them out, as people commonly display their collection of necklaces, brooches, bracelets, and most popularly, pearl earrings.
In the selection of the best pair earrings, what does get the best option? There’s the price of course; however, they can not really be the determining factor, as some vendors may easily overprice those jewels, while some selling them lesser than what they really are worth. Although scratching off that natural perception of more expensive equals better quality, these pearls generally cost some dough, as these water treasures are not that easy to find and produce.
Pearly shells, shining in the sun, as the song would go. Generally these bead-like gemstone are perceived to have that smooth and shiny finish. As shiny teeth is regarded as pearly whites, pearls would easily be associated with exceptional value. In owning a pair of earrings with this pearls, one can select from a number of colors as, white, creamy beige, pinkish, yellowish, blueish, and brownish. Among those hints and taints over that original stark white ball, black pearls are the most highly valued, and said to be the best of its kind. Who would miss a well-known and well-loved jewelry piece such as a pearl embedded in a stunning ring? It is not just the ring, of course, that catches anyones attention. Be it glittering gold or shining silver, it merely supports the star of the show, which is the pearl. No matter where it is placed, a pearl always captivates the discriminating eyes. Setting it in a first-rate ring, however, amplifies its beauty and worth.
Pearls are themselves the proof that life is the mother everything delightful. These do not come from inert elements but from the intercourse of sand and oysters on the seabed. Every pearl is different from the rest. A pearl aficionado can always tell the difference even as you cannot easily do. Hence, you can always be sure that the ring you are wearing is one of a kind.
