Accidents do and will happen. If you work with heavy machinery, construction, or risky physical activity such as rock climbing it is recommended that you remove jewelry whether it is titanium or any other metal.
In the event of injury to your ring finger, remove the ring before the onset of swelling. A lubricant may be required, saliva works in a pinch. Applying ice can be helpful besides raising your arm to allow blood flow away from injured finger or hand. Hospitals are equipped if the ring must be cut off.
Jewelers who may have been threatened by titanium ring sales likely started the rumor that titanium is a poor choice due to the metal strength is near impossible to cut. Mens titanium rings could not be created if this were true. Call your local emergency facility for information regarding titanium ring removal.
I have personally cut through titanium rings with my home dremel ( I make jewelry ) with ease. Professionals would not use a dremel obviously. They are equipped with high tech emergency ring cutters.
