You have probably read of our heart jewelry articles in the past. Today we will take a step backward and write a more “generic” on the history of jewelry in general. Jewelry as an art form has been around for thousands of years, and different cultures have used it in different ways. As we examine these pieces of jewelry we will gain insight into how these ancient cultures actually worked.
If we take a look at the homo sapiens in Ancient Africa we see the first signs of a culture creating jewelry. Snail shell beads have been found at Blombos Cave in South Africa that date back to 75,000+ years ago. Gone are the days when ladies watches consisted of a silver face and black leather band. While these were very practical, they were certainly not interesting, fun or a fabulous accessory.
Watches are no longer an expensive, once in a lifetime purchase. Advances in mass production have lowered the price of many goods and watches are no exception. There are still beautiful handmade watches available, carefully crafted by Swiss watchmakers, but these are invariably expensive and not an option for most people. Copies have been made of the popular brands and designs, and the price is much lower because of the method of manufacture, the use of cheaper movements and materials.
The trend is to have a collection of watches so you can choose which one you feel like wearing at any time. The range of ladies watches at department stores, specialty and jewellery stores and even chains, is huge these days, and you will find lots of designs you like. Even if a lady does not have time to put on a makeup or accessories, she certainly has time to put on her watch. They are an easy and yet fashionable accessory which everyone notices. Ladies watches light up your hands and wrist and great way to show off too.
Today no longer do women wear the same watch twenty four hours a day and 365 days. They change their watches according to the occasion and time of day. It just depends if it’s a wedding, office sendoff or casual sports.
Watches are as prominent as getting a manicure done or even just having clean polished nails. They stand out on your hand and people even judge you by the watch you wear. This is true and people wearing formal watches to parties are looked down upon. Wearing the wrong watch model can make you look old fashioned or out of fashion.
People often look at your hands and that’s when your watch comes into the picture. We wear it on the most used part of our body, which people look at. Today people wear watches according to who they are seeing and where they are going. Not paying attention to your watch is considered as being out of fashion. Whether you like it or not, people look at it as a fashion accessory.
When you talk to people, they look at your hands. Our hands are the most used part of our body and watches tell a lot about you. They are not more time pieces, they are fashion statements.
