The ABC’s of Horse Jewelry

Saturday, 14. November 2009

People have been fascinated with horse jewelry (jewelry with horses on it) throughout the ages. From the most ancient of days to our present era today, families would often incorporate the image of a horse into their jewelry. Usually made from precious metals and gems, such as gold, silver, and diamonds, they were often passed down from generation to generation. They became valuable keepsakes.

Where did this desire to put a “mere animal” on a beautiful piece of jewelry come from? Just think of the horse…it’s not too hard to imagine. The horse is an animal with a number of desirable traits…traits that we all hope we possess in our own character. What are these traits? They are:

1) Strength – Horses have been asked to perform many of man’s most menial tasks. Consider the workhorses like the Clydesdale for example. They are powerful enough to pull the famous Budweiser wagons, and plow the fields as well. A piece of jewelry that incorporates the horse design will exude the strength and power of this animal. This type of gift is very popular amongst men.

What Are The Conflict Free Diamonds?

Monday, 9. November 2009

Many diamond vendors are proving and setting the example that living an ecological-conscious life is possible in every aspect of our life. Take their offerings of Conflict free diamonds and refined metals to make Eco-friendly jewelry. The diamonds come from the Kimberley process; which ensures that your diamonds come from legitimate sources only and have nothing to do with blood diamonds.

StopBloodDiamonds.org is the site for conscious jewelers. The blood diamonds tainted with human rights violations come from Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola, therefore Diamond trade with this region is banned. Horrible crimes against fellow humans are committed here at the hands of well-armed militants who are supported by unethical governments.

Money laundering is another major activity in these blood diamond mines for the terrorist groups similar to Al-Qaeda. We bring you clean diamonds that have no part of these atrocities against humanity. You have already chosen to protect the earth by making choices like walking to the library, using appliances, eating organically grown foods, They offer you another opportunity to carry on your crusade and wear precious metals that have been recycled.

I am a mother of two children (one girl and one boy) and as a result I have received a lot of baby gifts. Some gifts which I have loved and some that sat in the back of the closet. This article is for anybody who is wondering what to buy for a baby shower gift. What most parents need is not the cutest outfit out there; they also need it to be functional.

1) Do not buy blue or pink clothing:

This is a personal preference but I have talked to other mothers who feel the same way. When my daughter was born everybody bought pink outfits. The closet was a sea of pink, there was so much pink that I was sick of the colour. My husband’s and my favourite outfit soon became a rusty orange colour set. It complemented her skin tone and – it was not pink. That colour came back to haunt me for a second time when I had my son; I found that I could not reuse the generic clothing like sleepers, socks and onesies because they were all pink.

1) Please stay away from blue and pink clothing:

This is a personal preference but I know other mothers who agree with me. When my daughter was born everybody bought her pink clothing. There was so much pink in her closet that I was sick of the colour. Daddy’s and Mommy’s favourite piece of clothing soon became a rusty orange coloured outfit. The colour complemented her skin tone and most importantly – it wasnt pink. That girly colour came back to haunt me for a second time when I had my son -I could not reuse the sleepers, socks and onesies because they were all pink.

Generic coloured clothing means that they can be easily reused and your gift will get more use.
