How To Buy A New Suit

Saturday, 27. June 2009

Have you been considering the purchase of a new suit? If you have , then you already know how much information is out there- the media is full of advice to the consumer. Fashion authorities and style columnists all have plenty to say about the latest styles, but this doesn’t always help you choose what is best for you personally.

The color of your suit is very important, because color varies depending on the occasion the suit will be used for. For instance, you wouldn’t wear the same suit to work that you would to a party, or a wedding. While a pinstripe suit would look fabulous at work, it probably wouldn’t be the best thing to wear in a casual social setting.

The style also matters tremendously. You have a choice of single or double breasted. Double breasted men’s suits are the product of a bygone ageor so you would think. There has been a resurgence in their popularity, and they are now becoming more and more fashionable.

Have your suit custom measured to your body. It doesn’t cost much, and a tailored fit always looks better than an off the rack item.

Of all the fabrics available for suits today, wool is generally the most popular and best choice. Wool fabric has qualities of durability and longevity which other fabrics simply cannot match.

Fabric weight is an important consideration. Should you plan to wear your new suit in a warm environment, such as most offices, every day, you will want to consider a lighter fabric. While linen might seem a good choice initially due to it’s light weight, it tends to wrinkle and look rumpled quickly. A good choice is a wool and polyester blend- it has the nice appearance of wool , but feels more like linen and wears beautifully.

You must match the shirt and tie carefully. Your shirt must be suitable to wear alone. If you remove your jacket, you wouldn’t want your shirt to embarrass you.

Finally, you might want to get some advice from your partner or spouse. After all, they will always give you good and critical advice. Even though you have the building blocks to make some good choices now, your other half can give you that confirmation and help you know how great you look in your new suit!
